Are you thinking about a career in consulting or pursuing an MBA in the U.S.?

These two paths have something important in common: the GMAT! A challenging exam that tests logic, mathematical reasoning, and much more. And no, you can’t approach this test without being prepared. Studying and understanding the nuances of each section is crucial to ensuring a good performance.

For those who want to start understanding: below are the two GMAT sections most focused on logical and numerical reasoning, which are highly relevant for those pursuing a career in consulting (there is also a verbal section, which typically does not appear in consulting-related tests):

  1. Integrated Reasoning (IR):

This section measures your ability to interpret and analyze data presented in various formats. Graphs, tables, and multiple sources of information make up the challenge. You’ll need to make quick, well-founded decisions based on a large volume of data — just like we do when analyzing dashboards and metrics on a daily basis. If you’ve been in that situation, IR will feel familiar!

  1. Quantitative Section:

Here, you’ll deal with math problems and logical reasoning questions. In addition to traditional problems, there’s a unique question type called Data Sufficiency, where your task is to determine if the information provided is enough to solve the question — without actually solving it! This format is great practice for those who need to make quick decisions, even with incomplete data.

At Insignia Partners, the analytical test consists of 15 multiple-choice questions, to be answered in 50 minutes.
